I got to chicago around 2:00. I went and got to meet fucking SLAYER!
They signed a picture for me, and the foldout cover to DIVINE INTERVENTION! I
even got to take a picture with Tom! I also took several pics of the band,
and shook hands with each member! After that, on to the show!
There was only about 500-600 people there (the metro is a small club, and it was sold out). I ran to the front of the stage to await their arrival. The stage was about a foot away from me! The 2 openers were as you know System of a Down, and Clutch. System were real aggressive, but I didn't like them at all. Nothing is good but SLAYER. Clutch were pretty aggressive too. People were making fun of their equipment before they came out, but after that, everyone around me thought they were real cool. I was really surprised at how good of a reaction both bands recieved, every other group usually gets kicked off from all of the "boo's" and "fuck you's". Then at 9:00, smoke started flooding the stage from the smoke machine, hitting everyone of us in the front in the face. Then place went dark. The intro to HELL AWAITS began to play. That place went fucking CRAZY! Jeff and Tom were right in from of me, like I said, about a foot away! I reached up and touched Jeff's guitar (his famous Jackson with all the stickers on it). They were so fucking loud! Anyone who says that there are more brutal bands than SLAYER, is extremely fucked in the head. They play with such a ferocity that no other band can match. I could feel the air being pushed at me from Paul's bass drums! I felt consumed by their fucking music completely. They played tight as hell, not missing a single note or beat. Jeff blew me away. He is so awesome. He hit so many high notes that my ear drums felt like they were going to explode. Kerry was cool as fuck as well. Hitting every riff perfect. I think it was really cool that he was wearing a Stone-cold Steve Austin t-shirt! Tom sang every line exactly as expected. Perfect. I stayed in the front for an hour, and then got the hell to the middle, right behind the pit, because I was tired as hell trying not to get hit too many times. I have seen SLAYER before, but this was the most intense fuckin concert they have ever done! I brought my friend along who is not a SLAYER fan, and he said that he never saw anything more intense than that concert. |
