Hmmm, this will mark my second departure to Slayer in a little less than
three months. I went to the show at Harpo's in Detroit in June (The same
day diabolus came out) That show was Wicked, but this one blew it all away.
August 28th, the State Theater, Detroit Michigan. We got there around 7:00 just enough time to sit at a table and wait for Kilgore. They came on and played a decent set, much better than System of a Down ever could. Fear Factory followed of course and they kicked some good ass. Definately a good band to get your blood boiling for Slayer. After Fear Factory, my friends and I decided to venture into the pit. They came on with that opening booming from Blade Runner and that lasted a minute or so, but they followed it with Bitter Peace and everyone just became psycho. Now that setlist was supreme. When they followed Bitter Peace with Death's Head just like on the album, with no pause, I lost it. That show was the ultimate in evil. I have never seen so many barking, rabid people in my life. Throught the entire show, after every song, everyone couldn't stop chanting Slayer! It was unreal. I would have to say the peak of the show was when they played Gemini. They came out with it like it was the most peaceful song ever but when the ending broke out everyone went nuts. And I do remember seeing a girl take her shirt off during suicide. That also added to the pleasure of the evening. Unfortunately I would have loved to have heard Desire or Overt Enemy, and I can say that I am spoiled from buying the import, becuase Unguarded Instinct and Wicked are two of the greatest songs they've ever written. I knew they wouldn't play those of course because about 99% of the people there probably haven't even heard of them. |
