Review
Let me start off by saying that most of the people here were Metallica fans. That means of course, there were a bunch of yuppies, and preppies who have no clue what metal is. The second biggest fan base was there for Slipknot, a bunch of young kids and teenagers.

I'd say out of the 42,000 people there, a good 2,500 were Slayer Only fans, not a bad showing. Hatebreed and Sepultura were both really good. Sevendust and Slipknot absolutley Suck. Now to the good part. Slayer come out on stage with No backdrop, no Announcement, no fanfare, just ready to play. At the conclusion of the intro (Black Sabbath's Hand of Doom), Slayer launch right into War Ensemble, and the craziest pit of the day starts.

The soundman is really on today because they sound better than I have heard them in a long time. Tom's voice is Dead on. After a brief greeting to the Crowd, they go into Bitter Peace, A great song to keep the crowd going and follow that right up with Death's Head another great thrashing tune. (My neck hurts so much I have to stop writing occasionally to stretch it, age catching up to me?)

After another brief pause Tom warns us that Here Comes the Pain! And as a few others have written here, its a Much better song performed live. Unfortunatley very few people know this song so the crowd is kinda restless. But thats remedied easily when Tom goes into Story Time, and everyone knows and sings the chorus to Dead Skin Mask, even a lot of the young kids know this song, much to my surprise. After that its South of Heaven, done perfectly. The drum pattern of Raining Blood gets everyone in the pit ready to go again.

No matter how many times I hear this song it always makes me rage, and they go right into Hell Awaits from there. Crowd is a blur of flying bodies and bleeding lips. After a few seconds to recover, Tom takes us back To Haunting the Chapel and the familiar guitar opening of Chemical Warfare (My personal Favorite) and its done at even faster than normal speed, Excellent!

After thanking us all for coming out, and saying a few kind words about Metallica, The Final song is Angel Of Death, also done a little faster than Normal, and Paul Bostaph has finally won me over. He is as fast as I've ever Seen Dave play and I've seen these guys 20 times with Dave. He nailed the solo part at the end of Angel so well the whole crowd gave him a big cheer. So ends another great, though Short, Slayer set. This was my 31st time seeing them and I have yet to leave disapointed.

One other thing, as surprising as this may seem, Metallica played their entire set from thier first three albums, including Blistering versions of Whiplash, and Battery. The only 2 bad songs they played were the awful King Nothing and one of the Horrible S&M songs. I was both impressed and enraged by this. They can still do the Metal thing if they want, but they seem to be happier making the money that commercial radio brings. Sad But True.
