This was the first time for me to see the guys, and not only that, I had the
great honor of driving them around for two days. So let's start everything a
littlebit earlier.
This was a Festival, with more than 12 Bands playing, and the guys from Slayer arrived at 10.30 pm the night before, so I was very surprised, when they said, that they want do a Soundcheck by themselves the next day. It was sceduled for 10.00am in the morning, and I knew they had been on airplanes and airports for nearly 24 hours, when they arrived in Vienna. The next morning I got them at 9.30 am from their Hotel, and they didn't look very happy. Tom and Kerry didn't sleep at all, and Paul wasn't fresh either, only Jeff told me, he had sleept well. Then we went to the Venue, to find out that nothing was ready yet, and the boys had to wait till noon to make the Soundcheck. Sudenly everybody stoped doing, what they had to do (including me of course), and we all watched Slayer for half an hour. And they where already really heavy. They played bits and pieces, from War Ensemble, South of Heaven, and so on. After that, I brought them back to the hotel, and went back to the venue, bringing with me the guys from Armored Saint. As I told before, 12 bands were playing that day, here are the top 5 spotes:
Metalium: Kicked Ass In the backstage area, I watched the guys preparing themselves for the gig. Jeff wore this real cool stuff. He told me it is from the Police's SWAT team. Kerry wore this cool shirt, with the Intel Inside Logo, but instead it was red, saying Satan inside. He also told me, that on the long Nails from his Wristband, there is real Human blood on!!! Cool!!! They went on stage, and started right on with War Ensemble - Wow! I watched the show from different places, above from the Backstage Area, went into the Pits, and then beside the Stage with Chucky B, and other guys from Testament. The only time Tom spoke to the people, was before Here comes the pain, when he told everybody, that this song is now out for a few months, but in America nobody plays it on Air. Guess what, over here no one does either.
They played a great 90 minute set, playing everything, I wanted to hear When I got them to drive them back to the Airport, they were all having a good time, but didn't look too happy, (I guess 2 hours sleep wasn't enough?!?). Guy's, thanks again for the great gig, please come back to Vienna, as soon as possible!!! |
