It has to be said, quite a few of the audience here tonight were here to see
support act Machine Head as their debut album was gaining more euphoria than
"Divine Intervention" was at the time.
After Machine Head's performance some people were trying to leave as they must have "seen what they came to see". It felt like an eternity before Slayer were set to go on but as soon as they did you couldn't hear Slayer let alone Tom Araya for the crowd singing every line to the first few songs. What a time this must have been for Slayer, nobody had put out a major thrash record for ages, Slayer had been practically non-existant for nearly two years and in a day when the likes of Pearl Jam seemed to be the "rock heroes" of that time, Slayer SHOULD have been very nervous. However, the fact that Slayer hadn't played here for ages seemed to bring a sense of coming together and even the departing Machine Head fans joined in the pit. It was a good night and our first sighting of Kerry King's shaven head with tattoos, not to mention our first hearing of "Divine Intervention", "Dittohead", "Mind Control" and "213". |
