Ok 9:30, the lights dim down and on comes Darkness of Christ, the atmosphere has
picked up some of the electricity and the crowd does roar. Disciple is the first
song and is very good despite the fact that the sound system here absolutely
sucks ass. I'm not a fan of earplugs but with this sound system unless you know
the songs note for note you can get lost and I saw that happening to some of the
people around me, having to hold their ears for a few seconds to figure what
song was playing. I selflessly helped out by screaming the lyrics at everyone so
they could pick up what was going on. heh. Anyway War Ensemble is next and
totally rips as usual, Sport the War Motherfuckers! Stain of Mind came next and
I hate to say this but Dave totally botched this song, he just isn't familiar
enough with the tune I guess because the intricate footwork wasn't there and
made the song hard to follow. I felt he probably should have went basic instead
of trying to copy Bostaph's moves. The first surprise of the night came when
they broke out Threshold. I know a lot of people don't like this song but that's
too bad. It came off wonderfully. Tom was particularly strong on this one,
belting out the chorus with gusto. Next up was the everpopular ever great
Postmortem/Raining Blood combo which was awesome and again contained the full
blast ending as is done on the album. Brilliant! Hell Awaits was up next
followed by Die By The Sword and the second surprise of the night Born of Fire!
Great tune and I was happy to hear it back in the set. After a short pause to
suck up some applause and get a breather Tom announced Bloodline, which again
seems to be a very popular tune because the whole crowd sang along with it and
enjoyed it very much. God Send Death came next and was received well by all.
Another short pause and then Tom announced Captor of Sin, Dave really ripped on
this one and the solos at the beginning were flawless. After that We got Dead
Skin Mask followed by Seasons in The Abyss minus the long intro. Great once
again. Another short pause where Tom denounced the idiotic raghead terrorists
and said even though the Taliban is gone they still haven't felt our full
Payback. I was very pleased to hear this one as it wasn't played at the last
show and was as good as I thought it would be live. Then the standard encores of
Mandatory Suicide, Chemical Warfare, South of Heaven and finally Angel of Death.
Angel was particularly good this night and Dave held out the solo part at the
end for much longer than usual and the place erupted. The sound system was
terrible but the band was great as usual. Dave handled all of the songs quite
easily except for Stain of Mind. I don't think I will be going back to this
venue again though because the sound was that bad. Irving Plaza in NYC is a much
better place to see a show in that area.
