Just got back from the Slayer show in Indy on Jan 29. Fucking bad ass. I got a pick from Tom hehe! Also some funny shit. Tom fucking up a couple times badly, read on:

I got there after waiting inline in cold fucking pouring rain, but didn't care because I knew the pit would warm me up. The first band, Diecast, was actually pretty decent for an opener I had never heard of they were half hardcore(not a big fan of this btw) and the other half thrash, which was cool since I get sick of hearing the exact same shit again and again (hatebreed). There guy could scream and sing so that was a good change of pace.

After them Hatebreed was up and got way too much time, every fucking song is the same riff with a pull off added I swear. If I wanted to hear this shit I'd go back to the 2nd stage of Ozzfest '01. I tried moshing to these guys but gave up because everyone's shoes were wet from the rain and we were on smooth tile. Made for too much falling down.

Anyway, after putting up with that bs, the wait for Slayer began. I started in the middle about 5 rows of people back. The place was pretty nuts, chanting Slayer quite a bit and going insane when the lights went off. Most everyone had heard by now that Dave was drumming which seemed to excite most people, I guess I don't see why he's that much better than Paul.

Anyhow, I thoroughly enjoyed Disciple although the sound didn't sound the best, but I was in the middle and couldn't take advantage of the acoustics. Anyway after the first few songs they played Threshold. I really, really don't like this song, it's boring, wish they would have played Bitter Peace or New Faith or something off of Divine The funny part was Tom started singing 8 bars too soon. He realized it as soon as he looked at Kerry, quit singing and he then started like he was suppose to a few seconds later. Little did I know there was more to come from Tom.

Then after a long pause and many thank you's to the crowd he introduces Postmortem, I fucking love this song. So great live. They ofcourse go straight into Raining Blood. I couldn't tell how big the pit was because I had made my two the second row by now. Anyhow, after the fast as fuck part of the song, it comes time to sing "Trapped in Purgatory". Well he didn't. HE TOTALLY FUCKED UP. Tom like forgot to sing. Said fuck, laughed and then just played the verse with his back to the crowd. He smiled and then started singing the second verse. Next was Hell Awaits, great combo. All the hard core Slayer fans in front knew he had fucked up and were giving him shit about it. As the intro to Hell Awaits warmed up, Tom kept faking into the mic that he was going to start singing and would then smile. He didn't fuck up the rest of the night. I didn't really give a shit either way, I knew all the words but it was just funny.

I guess the next highlight was me pushing onto the front bar center stage when I helped pull a chick out who couldn't handle the front. I was there just in time for Captor of Sin. It sounded fucking great. I love that intro lead. I guess I'm pretty good at moving forward in crowds. I hardly ever push, I just go with the flow and being a lanky guy somehow always get up front. I was there the whole time for the last metal show I went to(Megadeth).

It was cool to hear payback although the guitars sounded muffled. People have been saying Tom's voice is wearing out and I guess I sort of agree but I'd have to stand in the back and really see what it sounds like.

The best part of the show was at the end, Tom showed his appreciation for me screaming every Lyric the whole time and acting like a crazy fucker. He threw me a guitar (or bass I guess) pick. It's pretty big and says Slayer in classic form on one side with a five-pointed star with a circle around it on the other side.

The crowd (and I) were chanting for Silent Scream, At Dawn They Sleep the whole show. I didn't know if Dave being there made more people interested or not. His drumming on Angel of Death was flawless. You could tell a lot of people there hadn't gotten GHUA yet because they didn't know the material. Everyone enjoyed saying "God Hates Us All" . One thing that surprised me was that Tom talked to crowd, a lot. And many times waited for Slayer chants to stop as he smiled and then would talk to the crowd. Does Tom always talk a lot on the headlining tours? Overall, great show, of course they left out a couple I would've like to hear but who gives a shit, it was a great time.
