the beginning of my slayerevening was anything but promising. shortly before
we were ready to go i checked out the slayerized page and had to read the
horrorinfo that slayer had to stop in the middle of the show due to problems
that tom had with his voice. the only hope was that he had one complete day
for recovering.
as the other bands didn't interest me we got very late to the concert and we missed hatebreed, don't know how good they did or if they actually played. slipknot was ok but i wonder why they have nine or ten members. at least two of them only bang their heads, jump like crazy kids on their drums, every now and then scream one sentence or beat their drums with a baseball bat. that was ridiculous. whatever, i was there for slayer and what expected me blasted everything else away. familiar opener darkness of christ into disciple (one of the few good songs on ghua) and the show went off. in the beginning tom was careful with his voice, the scream to warensemble was a bit low. but the longer the show was the more confidence he got. classics like fight till death that i always wanted to hear live, seasons in full lenght(kerry first forgot to switch between distortion and none), chemical warfare and so on. no stain of mind, thank satan! the sound wasn't that good but i think that's because i was in the second row, don't know how it sounded a bit behind. tom played with the audience really happy that his voice held what he told us, but i think only few knew about his problems two days ago. and then the ultimate end: south of heaven, angel of death, then a break....in the dark you could see that the roadies were working on something. i thought "no, that can't be the preparation for the bloodrain that would be too cool seing live". the lights went on and they played postmortem. the turn into raining blood was extensive and the drumspart supported by the light very intensive. and then they stood before me, blood on their heads...i went nuts. first i thought they only poured a little of it on their head, but in the end real blood rained on the stage. the best slayer show i've ever seen. guys, you mustn't miss that. the setlist was a little short, but i think that's ok because of tom's problems. |
