6.00, we leave Aalst, about 40 minutes from Leuven.
The evening started with a massive traffic jam, we arrived at 20.20.
That was really bad.
To our greatest surprise Slayer had already began to play. Slayer was
playing???
Somebody told me that Slipknot sells more records in Belgium than Slayer
does.
The "Brabanthallen" were shaking, the walls trembled from the bass. But there we were, standing outside, waiting to get in. The place was filled with people, i gues there were about 10.000 of us. Lots of people with slayershirts, and even more closer to the stage. The sound was amazing, at the back of the hall you could talk and in front it was pure magic. Standing close to the stage was an assault on the ears, but a truely physical experience. The bassdrum sounded like a heavy machine gun from time to time. Angel of Death came with a magnificent drum solo so fast, so good, like perfection Every fan's hair stood up straight hearing the intro of south of heaven. Crosses were projected at the wall behind Slayer, they turned upright, South of Heaven. They played three extra numbers. From beginning to the end, the show just bursted of energy, not one mistake was played. It was stunning, magnificent. Tom Araya thanked everybody for their support. Fifteen minutes later Slipknot started. The hall became bigger, people fewer and the quality too. Maybe the last part is a bit unappropriate, but we really were disappointed to hear Slayer was playing BEFORE Slipknot. I'm still upset about it but it didn't change the fact that Slayer had again performed so good, they always perform even better than i've been hoping they would. |
