Review
The show as sold out about 3 days after tickets went on sale so we knew it was gonna be awesome. They even added a second night due to such high demand. Anyway, Mastodon came on stage around 20:15. I'm not familiar with they're music but they were heavy as fuck!! They played about 40mins. Then it was time to hit the bar for a few beers before Slayer. The last time I saw Slayer live was in 1994 during the Divine Intervention tour. I was hoping for a few old classics now that Lombardo was back behind the kit. I wasn't dissappointed!! After a bit of messing around and sound checks from the roadies, the intro tape of Darkness of Christ started at 21:30. Slayer fired straight into Disciple and then War Ensemble. Next was At Dawn They Sleep, straight into Black Magic and then Necrophiliac. Seeing Black Magic was great. Then I nearly fuckin SHIT!! BLOOD RED....a song I've been dying to see live in person for years. Right after Blood Red came Born of Fire. Could it possibly get any better? OH YEAH!! Stain of Mind, God Send Death, Hell Awaits.....they just kept pumping them out. Then there was Postmortem and after that a real blast from the past, Show No Mercy LIVE for the first time in I'm sure over 15 years. Raining Blood finished the main set. After a few minutes and a lot of SLAYER SLAYER SLAYER the intro to South of Heaven, but the big suprise came at the end when the guys went right into Silent Scream, another classic that hasn't been played in a long time!! I was sort of hoping for the whole South of Heaven album back to back like they did a few years ago with Reign in Blood, but unfortunately, it just wasn't to be. Anyway, next came Mandatory Suicide and finally Angel of Death. All in all, a fucking great setlist. We hung about after and met Jeff and Kerry, apparently Tom and Dave snuck out earlier. We got autographs and talked for a little while which was cool. I asked Kerry if they'd consider adding Ghosts of War to their set list but he said "Everyone asks me about that song. Man I hate playin that song. Theres just some I hate playin and some Jeff hates playin and thats one of them". Looks like a big fat NO then, but shit happens. He said the setlist for the next night would be a bit different. Same start and finish but a few different tunes in the middle. He also said that he thought tonights set was the better of the two dates.
