Drummer Dave Lombardo will be sitting behind the kit for all of SLAYER's upcoming touring activities "until late this year", according to an informed source. Although there has been no official word yet on the group's ongoing drummer search, it appears that the band have not yet found a suitable replacement for Paul Bostaph, who left the group in December due to a "chronic elbow injury", a medical condition which had prevented him from playing at intensity levels required by SLAYER's high-energy material.
In other news, SLAYER's cover version of STEPPENWOLF's "Born To Be Wild", which is scheduled to be included on the upcoming NASCAR-sponsored Crank It Up compilation CD, marks the group's first studio recording with Lombardo since 1990's Seasons In The Abyss CD. Longtime producer Rick Rubin, who also runs the American Recordings label, was at the helm for the sessions, which were recently completed at Capital and Hollywood Sound studios in Hollywood, California. Sean Beavan engineered and mixed the song, which will surface through MCA Records on May 21st. |
