Last nights show cancellation - some updates

As you all may know now last nights show at the "Ruhr Congress" in Bochum, Germany had to be cancelled due to Toms "illness". As it turns out he seems to suffer from severe tonsillitis and just couldn't do the show. Apparently the band did a soundcheck that evening where they realized Tom couldn't sing a word that night.

Rumor has it that the Bochum show won't be re-scheduled since there were no more free dates on Slayers tour schedule.

"The Big Four" to be simulcast to theaters

Metallica updated their website with the following message regarding the "Big Four" shows this summer:

"Can't make it to Europe this June for one of the seven Sonisphere 'Big Four' shows featuring the 'TALLICA along with SLAYER, MEGADETH, and ANTHRAX? No problem . . . we've got the next best thing through the magic of satellite technology with a special HD simulcast from Sofia, Bulgaria on June 22!

"Here's how it works: The live show will be transmitted via satellite to over 450 movie theaters in the U.S. and over 350 theaters across Europe, Canada, and Latin America. Within hours of all of us walking off the stage, depending on what time zone you live in, you'll be able to rock out to each set in the cozy confines of your local movie theater that same night.

"Now the nitty gritty details: Tickets for the one-night-only event are available at the local theater box offices and online at TheBigFourLive.com where you can see a complete list of presenting theaters. They will start to go on sale Friday, May 21 in the U.S and Friday, May 28 internationally. Please note that ticket on sale times and even days will vary by theatre, so check with your friendly neighborhood participating movie theatre for exact days and times tickets will be available and keep watching TheBigFourLive.com for theatre additions/changes. For our friends in Australia, South Africa and New Zealand, delayed screenings will be coming your way. Again, keep watching here and TheBigFourLive.com for updates.

"A few more tidbits you might find helpful: Ticket prices in the U.S. will be around $20 plus whatever service charges your local theater may add. No, unfortunately each band's entire set will not be shown, but trust us, you'll see most of the action."

Metal Hammer UK: Vote for Slayer!

Metal Hammer in the UK are trying to drum up some support for the Slayer cover that's been nominated for a design award, and seeing as it's been put up against some real mainstream competition, the fans are needed to vote for Slayer. Check out Metal Hammer UK for full details.

International Day Of Slayer approaching

For the fourth year in a row, fans of heavy metal music unite on June 6 for the International Day of Slayer, a holiday to celebrate heavy metal. Metal fans are hoping for recognition of their culture and way of life as an elective culture of equal footing to other cultures and religions in our pluralistic society.

Growing up as a fan of heavy metal in Los Angeles, teenager Dag Hansen became frustrated with holidays. "Every time a holiday came around, it was culture this or culture that," he said. "I wanted one to reflect my culture, because in the land of malls and triplicate forms, I found more cultural value in heavy metal than any of the stuff other people called culture."

Fast forward almost two decades and Hansen is part of a small group trying to get an "International Day of Slayer" accepted as a public holiday. Originally the National Day of Slayer, formed in response to the American "National Day of Prayer," the holiday has gained momentum over the last four years. Its message that heavy metal is a culture and deserves recognition alongside other cultures in our diverse world, while at first unorthodox, is gaining momentum.

For those interested in participating, check out www.NationalDayOfSlayer.org.

Slayer to appear on Jimmy Kimmel Live!

Slayer's first performance since bassist/vocalist Tom Araya underwent back surgery will take place May 20 on ABC-TV's "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" (the appearance was rescheduled from its original date of November 4, 2009).

Slayer's "American Carnage" tour, originally scheduled to take place in January and February, had to be put on hold due to Araya's ongoing, minimally invasive treatments for what was diagnosed as a cervical radiculopathy, an occupational hazard for the rocker who is known for aggressively swinging his long mane of hair while performing. Right after the first of the year, Araya made the difficult decision to undergo a surgical procedure, called an anterior cervical discectomy with fusion, a relatively routine practice with an excellent recovery rate. That surgery took place in January.

Tom's first interview since his surgery

The first interview with Slayer bassist/vocalist Tom Araya since he underwent back surgery at the end of January will be taped April 2 on AOL Noisecreep's 'Creep Show' podcast (the program will be recorded live and will be posted April 5). Check out the full story here!

European tourdates re-scheduled

Californian thrashers SLAYER have announced the rescheduled dates for their U.K. headlining tour, with Sweden's THE HAUNTED as support. The trek will kick off on May 26 at the 02 Academy in Leeds, with the band playing seven headline shows, ending with two in London. All tickets for the original shows are valid.

SLAYER's original tour dates had to be postponed due to bassist/vocalist Tom Araya's ongoing treatment for what was diagnosed as a cervical radiculopathy, an occupational hazard for the rocker who is known for aggressively swinging his long mane of hair while performing. Originally, Araya opted for a series of minimally-invasive procedures, and while they resulted in some improvement, they didn't entirely remedy the severe pain, numbness or muscle spasms that Araya continued to experience. Consequently, Araya made the difficult decision to undergo a surgical procedure, called an anterior cervical discectomy with fusion, a relatively routine practice with an excellent recovery rate.

"I think that his just making the decision to have the surgery has helped improve the way he feels," said longtime SLAYER manager Rick Sales. "While no one wants to go under the knife, his doctors are very confident about this procedure taking care of the problem once and for all."

The german, italian and netherlands tourdates have been rescheduled as well, unfortunately the show in Dresden (Germany) has been cancelled! More dates will be added as they surface!

Check out the Tourdates for the complete tour schedule.

Slayer cancel all tours - US & Europe

California thrash metal legends SLAYER have been forced to cancel all of their immediate tour plans — including the American and Canadian Carnage tour dates with MEGADETH and TESTAMENT that were set to kick off on January 18, as well as the band's European headline tour scheduled for March and April.

SLAYER bassist/vocalist Araya, known for aggressively swinging his long mane of hair while performing, began experiencing back problems while on the band's Australian/New Zealand/Japanese tour last October. In spite of his rapidly increasing pain and discomfort, he carried on with the tour, but immediately upon returning home saw an orthopedic specialist who diagnosed a cervical radiculopathy. The rocker initially did not want to take the major surgery route, so the specialist recommended a series of minimally-invasive procedures. While those procedures have resulted in some improvement, Araya continues to deal with intermittent bouts of severe pain, numbness and muscle spasms.

"Tom gave various medical treatments more than a fair shot," said SLAYER's manager Rick Sales, "but they just haven't handled the problem, so he's biting the bullet and is scheduled for back surgery at the end of this month."

The surgical procedure that Araya will undergo, called an anterior cervical discectomy with fusion, is a relatively routine practice and the recovery rate is excellent.

Booking agents for both SLAYER and MEGADETH are already hard at work rescheduling tour dates for summer 2010; tickets already purchased for all shows will be honored at the rescheduled dates.

Sales added, "As unfortunate as this is for so many people — the MEGADETH and TESTAMENT camps, the concerts' promoters, and, of course, the fans — Tom's health is the number one priority, and this has to happen."
